Bloemfontein est une ville d'Afrique du Sud, capitale de la province de l'État-Libre (ancien «État libre d'Orange»).

Elle est la capitale judiciaire du pays depuis 1910.

Située à 1 400 m d'altitude, la ville de Bloemfontein compte 370 000 habitants pour une agglomération métropolitaine de plus de 650 000 habitants.

Son nom signifie « fontaine aux fleurs » en néerlandais.

Suite à la réorganisation des municipalités à la fin des années 1990, Bloemfontein a été regroupé avec les villes de Thaba 'Nchu et Botshabelo dans la nouvelle municipalité locale de Mangaung.
